Entrying to Bhutan in an Indian vehicle
If you are planning on driving your own car to visit Bhutan, you will need to process an authorized letter from Royal Safety and Transport Authority .
The authorized letter from RSTA allows travelers to drive their own car while visiting Bhutan. To process authorized letter, the following documents are required:
1. Vehicle insurance
2. Vehicle fitness certificate
3. Authorized letter from the owner of the car in case the driver is not the owner of the car
4. Valid driver license copy
5. Entry permit copy
6. Copy of Passport/voter ID card
7. Duly filled RSTA form
Note* Name of the applicant should match on all documents submitted for processing and to avail the RSTA form, you are required to visit the RSTA office.
After the application has been processed, the traveler will be levied green tax. The charges will vary on the type of vehicle and number of days the vehicle will be driven in Bhutan.
With the authorized letter obtained, the traveler will now be able to drive anywhere in Phuntsholing, Thimphu and Paro. However to visit to Punakha and other Dzongkhags, you will need to process for this authorized letter from the Road Safety and Transport in Thimphu again.
